For the 2016 year, the Ford F-150 not only gets more powerful, but it gets a whole lot smarter. The biggest change comes from the materials used to make up the body of this pickup truck. In years past the F-150 was constructed of mostly heavy steel, for, you know, toughness. However, the 2016 Ford F-150 has replaced pretty much all that steel for lightweight aluminum alloy. To reinforce this new material, the Ford F-150 rides on a ladder frame that’s made of high-strength steel.
The exterior to the 2016 Ford F-150 isn’t too changed from last year. It’s more rigid, replacing what few curves it once had with more right angles. But this isn’t just for aesthetics. It’s for aerodynamics. The F-150 has been retooled to beat the wind and gain more miles per gallon wherever it can.
In terms of engine, there’s still the V8 option for the 2016 Ford F-150, and the base V6. The new additions now include a couple of twin-turbocharged V6 engines. The base 3.5-liter gets 283 horsepower with a max towing of 7,600 pounds. For more torque, there’s also the 2.7-liter turbo V6 that puts out 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque; it tows up to 8,500 pounds.
The 2016 Ford F-150 also has better cargo-bed features like loading ramps, LED lighting in the cargo box, and a deployable bed step for easy access. Curve Control, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, and a lane-keeping system add to the wealth of safety features, ensuring that you’re as safe as possible.
